I wanted to know if anyone could tell me about reflective eye color in wild animals. Are there certain colors mostly pertaining to certain species? i.e. red = predatory, Green = non-predator…….or is green reflective eyes at night that of a feline species i.e. fisher cat, mountain lion etc. or could they be canine species, or raccoon etc.????

I saw green eyes in my flash light in the bushes outside with my dog(on a leash). I immediately went back inside and I could hear the animal still rustling or walking. I couldn’t see a body of the animal to know what it was but……….the catch is that there is a pack of coyotes denned about 350-400 feet beside my house. I dont want to go into panic mode, prompt the killing of these animals, or right away ask that Fish and Game remove them but I do have two toddlers, and well…….my dog has to relieve himself outside ! and coyotes are known to only attack out of aggression not territorial issues. Im almost positive it wasnt a deer, due to the size of the eyes..seemed small but a good distance apart..and the way it moved. very slow but would not look away even while moving. I just wanted to know if wild animals could be identified by this feature. all imput is appreciated, no matter how small…please help.

They can be seen in big cats and hyenas. I think they are a sign of evilness.

They’re both pure black and it’s IMPOSSIBLE to see either at night. I’m really worried as we’re moving near a main road next week and if one runs off/slips their leash/etc., they won’t be seen. My puppy – a black Labradoodle – has a flashing red collar, and my other – a black Border Collie – has a reflective bandana, but I want something else to get them seen. It’s almost impossible not to walk them in the dark as I have school, and by the time I get home it’s dark. Any tips/websites I can buy from in the UK? Or anything I could make?

1st make sure they don’t slip there collar or run off

secondly check out your local pet stores pet shop you can buy all sorts of things fluorescent from leads to coats flashing luminous collars even bands that go on the base of your dogs tail that light up also make sure you have wear some thing fluorescent as well

It sounds like either cats or racoons– we have a few cats behind our house that glow either yellow or green

There are mirror like reflectors in there eyes which cause them to glow those different colors

I have multiple personalities, tourettes syndrome, and schizophrenia. My dog is very well behaved and when I have an episode, she helps to calm me down, so I was told by my psychiatrist that I should always keep her with me. We want to get her the right apparel so restaurants and places will know that she is a Service Dog. I’ve looked up what I can and I have found that she needs a reflective vest, a halter, a muzzle, and an 18 inch, or less, leash. I’ve found places that have them and I have ordered them. Is there anything else I might need? Thanks.

I volunteer with a program to get therapy pets ready to be placed in a home and all they wear is a vest with the companies name on it and the vest has pockets to carry wet wipes and baggies so if they have an accident in a store we can clean it up. You cant just leave piles of poop in stores. But I think you have to have your dog registered or just everyone would put a vest on their dog and take them into stores…. I would check in to that before the cops get called.

Every dog owner must have a dog collar and leash for they treasured companion. With the huge pet supply market available today, there are dog collars and leashes ranging from very inconspicuous, plain ones to absolutely gorgeous, extravagant ones that make people stare. Because we love our treasured pets so much, we want to give them the best that we can afford. We can make our dogs look stylish, unique, cute or fashionable with a new dog collar and leash. Along with being fashionable, dog collars have a practical use, which is holding your pet’s identification tags. This is extremely important if your dog ever gets lost as the identification tag gives information such as your pets name, your name, full address, telephone number and even veterinarians name and phone number. You can attach the dog’s rabies tag and if the pet has medical problems, a tag with its medical conditions.

Make sure when shopping for a dog collar it is the perfect fit for your pet. Any collar needs to be safe and comfortable so measuring for a collar is extremely important. With the tape measure around your pet’s neck, insert two fingers under it, take this measurement and add a couple of inches. Dog collars usually come in even number sizes such as eight inches, ten inches etc. If your dog’s neck measures nine inches, go the next size up. The collars come in a variety of widths and fastening devices so make an educated, smart decision when choosing a collar.

Just as we wear different jewelry or clothes on occasions, your dog can have a wide variety of fabulous collars and leashes. Never use a wide collar, as it will irritate your dog’s throat. Make sure that the collar and leash are strong enough to hold your pet safely if he sees something to chase after.

Buckle dog collars are usually rolled or flat and made of leather, nylon or cotton. You adjust these collars to fit your pets neck, but they do not tighten, once on. Round collars are great because they do not break the dog’s hair or chafe.

Breakaway collars, invented to keep a dog from choking if their collar catches on something, releases when yanked hard. This is a wonderful safety feature that saves many dogs lives. When used with a lease, the breakaway collar stays fastened.

Greyhound limited slip collars or limited slip collars are great for dogs that pull out of their collars. They are a cross between quick-release collars and slip collars. These adjustable collars tighten when the dog pulls but do not choke the dog.

Some of the other wonderful collars and leashes on the market are:

·Rhinestone studded collars and leashes

·Reflective collars and leashes

·Collars and leashes with paws, hearts and other patterns

·Studded leather collars

·Collars available in all colors

·Personalized collars with your pets name

No matter what type of collar or leash you select for your pampered companion, from very inexpensive to shockingly costly, your pet’s safety comes first.

I was at the off-leash dog park today, when a dog that had a strange, almost iridescent silver sleek coat ran by me towards a ball faster than any dog i’ve ever seen with the possible exception of a greyhound (and even that’s close). It was medium in color with an athletic, proportional build, and these eyes when it looked at you that had this almost "visible intelligence" to them, wolf-like, and this eerie light yellow color. The closest similarity was a Weimeraner, but this was no Weimeraner…it was about 30% smaller, 20% stalkier, it’s coat had this bizarre highly reflective quality to its silver hair, its jaw was very chiseled and angular with no real jowels, and when it panted, it had a very "joker-like" smile to it. It had a white chest, and the tips of all 4 paws had just a dash of white on them as well. I think it was a herding dog because it would "diamond" off the corners of anything it chased.

I live in Maryland. I asked my friend Kim who takes her Springer there "is that a mix?". She said "No, it’s a purebred, but a non-AKC breed. Their owners want them bred for performance over specs so they actually lobby against inclusion". So I said "well what is it?". She smiled and said "figured it out sherlock". So I’ve tried for two days, and the only silver-breeds I could find were a Thai Ridgeback (no, way too big and wrong profile), a silver lab (no, this dog’s coat was finer, sleeker, and the profile was more athletic looking), and a silver pit (closest out of the 3, but its muzzle was too long to be a pit, and it wasn’t quite as muscle bound).

If I don’t get it by tommorow she said she’ll give me it, but I don’t want to give her the pleasure. I asked for one hint tonight to help, and she said "the owner had to have it shipped in out of state" (doesn’t help me, all that tells me is it’s not common in Maryland, no duh).

Can anyone I.D. this dog from what I’ve given? It’s a stunningly beautiful dog, and its demeanor seemed highly intelligent, almost scary intelligent. What is it?

There are many different types of dogs that are classified as "pit bulls". There are (and these are the ones I am just naming off of the top of my head) American Staffordshire Terriers, English Staffordshire Terriers, American Pit Bull Terriers and Staffordshire Bull Terriers also called "Staffies".

Judging by your description my guess is that it is an American Pit Bull Terrier. This link shows a picture that sounds to me like the dog you are describing. There are also pictures of other dogs in the same class.

If I am right, or wrong, I am very curious what type of dog this is, so could you please post the correct answer, or email me?

I would also like to respond to a comment that someone said saying that "if it is not an AKC breed then it does not exist". That is not true, The American Kennel Club (or AKC) is a registry of purebred dog pedigrees in the United States. There are many other registeries of purebred dogs that exist in, and outside of the United States. These include the CKC, FCI, UKC, KCGB, CKC, ANKC, NKC, NZKC, APRI, ACR, and DRA. Also, the AKC is not part of the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (World Canine Organization).
