This multi-use/multi-functional item allows for pace counting for land navigation as well as knife/hatchet retention for safety. This is combination of two of my most original creations – the PSK lanyard and my side by side all-paracord ranger pacing beads (see my other videos). Loop size in video is for attachment to a Kabar that has no lanyard loop; in a separate video I show how to attach it. For a typical knife, I’d do the loop 3.5-4″ so it can be attached with a girth hitch.

So this is an advancement to my original paracord creation the “PSK Lanyard” (see my other video). Based on great input from others, I’ve removed the knot at the bottom that forms a loop and replaced it with two decorative stoppers. This allows one to draw up the paracord bead when hiking, resulting in two single strands and NO LOOP to catch or snag in the bush. When the paracord bead is slid down, a loop of adjustable size accommodates thumb-thong style grip, or just a simple wrist leash for retention (for use on a boat for example).

This video shows a method I use to form turks head knots as shown on my hiking staff. I learned this technique from Gibson’s book of knots and splices.
